DC Rollergirls Spring Break

The DC Rollergirls are having what looks like the last home bout before the championships this Saturday at 5 in the Armory. We've posted about the DC Rollergirls earlier, if you want to watch a sporting event on Saturday that won't involve huddling outside in the rain (after you get in the door, at least), this is a good bet. As an added bonus, you can now buy tickets via Paypal from their website for pickup at will call. You can still buy them from Ticketmaster, but your money is better spent on beer at the afterparty.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for kids 6-11, and free for kids 5 and under. Afterparty at the Pour House in Eastern Market following the bout.

Washington Capitals

It’s the last week of the regular season of the Washington Capitals (so the Express tells me). If you haven’t been to a game yet (like me!) and if you still have your student ID because your school wasn’t smart enough to put your graduation year on it (like me!) then think about attending the Student Rush Night. It’s only $10 for the upper level and $25 for lower level. You have to buy your tickets at the Verizon box office. But beware- I spoke with my office hockey guru who regularly goes to student night. Tickets go on sale at noon, and with only three games left, he warns that you really should get there at noon. Everyone in your party must be there with an ID and in order to get tickets together, only one ticket transaction can be processed (if you are buying four tickets, there will be one charge for $40- bring cash).

BASEBALL

The Express had an excellent insert today on the new stadium. I plan on keeping mine. It was a run down of everything you’ll need to know about venturing to see the team play in the new venue. Most importantly, for this Express reader, was the FOOD section and second most helpful, the local bar page. I personally cannot wait to pull the Concessions map out of my wallet to guide lost souls to the local vendor of their choice. Yes, it will probably take an inning to get to your choice, but do I mind? Not particularly, for me, the baseball experience is about the crowds, the beer, and the food.

The DC Rollergirls are having their second home bout of the season this Saturday in the Armory at 5. I went with a fellow Gone-Outer to their first bout in February and it was like nothing I'd ever seen. The fans are insanely enthusiastic (nothing says team spirit like a giant home-made flag that says HATE), and watching amateur sports has the added diversion of allowing you to picture the women skating and elbowing furiously, going to work in some public health NGO on Monday in an Ann Taylor twinset. It can be a little tricky to follow if you don't know the rules, but even if you have no idea what's happening it's still plenty entertaining. One caution- last time, we severely underestimated the appeal of roller derby to the DC public, and ended up two thirds back on a line that snaked from the entrance of the Armory almost to the Metro entrance, so it pays to get there plenty early. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for kids 6-11, and free for kids 5 and under. You can order them from Ticketmaster, but they'll gouge you in typical Ticketmaster fashion, you'll still have to wait on the will call line, and on opening day there didn't seem to be a problem with capacity. There's an afterparty at the Pour House in Eastern Market following the bout.
